NINEBULLETS.NET PODCAST: EPISODE 24 (SOME OF THE BEST OF 2011):

December 30th, 2011

Originally, the podcast and Ninebullets Radio were supposed to (mostly) feature different songs. Then, I was asked to do an extra hour on the show at the last minute and the two ended up being extremely similar track listings. Sorry about that but look at it like this; in a week the archive of the radio show will be gone forever but the podcast is available (for better or worse) forever.

The Episode 24 podcast will ring out 2011 here on ninebullets. In preparation for this show I literally (yes, I am properly using the word) collected 50+ songs I wanted to play and set out to make a podcast. I say that so you know that this isn’t a “best songs of the year” show, so much as a “some of my favorite songs of the year” show. Some made this podcast but most didn't...not because they were inferior songs, mind you, they just didn't fit the flow of the show.

Believe it or not, I do try to maintain even flows throughout these things and avoid too many whiplash tempo changes. Had I made the podcast the day before or the day after I did, it probably would have turned out very, very differently. But I didn't, and these are the songs that I chose and I'm done apologizing/explaining.

So, here are some of my favorite tracks of 2011 in podcast form. Everyone be safe over the long weekend, nurse your hangovers with the hair of the dog and college bowl games, and we'll see you come 2012 (the final year of our planet?). . As always, below you'll find the track listing for the show. Please tell your friends and Facebook/Twitter followers about it, I’ll greatly appreciate it.

Track Listing:

01. Frank Turner - I Still Believe (from England Keep My Bones)
02. The Decemberists - Down By The Water (from The King Is Dead)
03. Old Man Markley - Letterman (from Guts 'N Teeth)
04. The Porter Draw - Davey (from California Widow)
05. Chuck Ragan - Nomad By Fate (from Covering Ground)
06. Matt Woods - Beating Down My Door (from The Matt Woods Manifesto)
07. Have Gun Will Travel - To The Victor Go The Spoils (from Mergers & Acquisitions)
08. Lauderdale - Moving On (from Moving On)
09. Kaleigh Baker - The Weight Of It all (from The Weight Of It All)
10. JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound - Want More (from Want More)
11. Glossary - A Shoulder To Cry On (from Long Live All Of Us)
12. The Builders & The Butchers - All Away (from Dead Reckoning)
13. Deep Dark Woods - The Places I've Left Behind (from The Place I Left Behind)
14. Chuck Allen Floyd - Hard Times (from Schedule A)
15. American Andyne - Bastard Sons Of The New Depression (from So, You Want To Be A Bullfighter)

NINEBULLETS.NET PODCAST: EPISODE 23

November 9th, 2011

How y’all doing? It’s been a little while since we did one of these. I wish I had a real excuse but, to be honest, I don’t. I felt the pressure of doing a weekly radio show and as a result, the podcast got pushed to the background. Well, that’s not the case any longer and with that said, let’s focus on this show and not the missed shows of the past few months.

Once again out good friend from the Northwest, Lollyrae, sent us some beers and I went to drinking them during the podcast. You may remember that we did this once before and I was a little mixed on the results. While I did not get slurring drunk during this show I think I did a much better job describing the beers and making the trying of the beers a part of the show. I hope y’all think so too.

Speaking of the show. We’ve lots of good new stuff as well as some tunes you’re probably already quite familiar with. The show opens with a cover of Tom Petty’s “Refugee” by The Gaslight Anthem that I think rivals the original. Some of the other standout tracks include; Merle Haggard proving he still has it, Hellbound Glory showing there’s more to them than drug songs, Have Gun Will Travel showing there will be no sophomore slump with Mergers & Acquisitions, Shooter Jennings sending the pop country boys a message and Scott Hiram Biram doing what he does so well.

All that’s left is to press play on the music. So get to it and as always, if you like what you’re hearing on these podcasts, tell your friends about it. Post about it on your Facebook wall. Tweet about it. These bands are all pretty small so every new ear their music find counts, and you can directly assist them in that effort by telling people about this podcast and others like it.

Track Listing:
01. The Gaslight Anthem - Refugee (from the iTunes Sessions)
02. Autopsy IV Commentary
03. Merle Haggard - working Man's Blues (from Working In Tennessee)
04. Chris Knight - Enough Rope (from Enough Rope)
05. Doop and The Inside Outlaws - What Am I Supposed To Do (from What Am I Supposed To Do)
06. Autopsy IV Commentary
07. Sassparilla - Same Old Blues (from The Darndest Thing)
08. Gill Landry - Careless Love (from Piety & Desire)
09. James Leg - Drowning In Fire (from Solitary Pleasures)
10. Autopsy IV Commentary
11. Hellbound Glory - Bastard Child (from Damaged Goods)
12. Arliss Nancy - Wrong or Right (from Dance To Forget)
13. Have Gun Will Travel - To The Victor Goes The Spoils (from Mergers & Acquisitions)
14. Autopsy IV Commentary
15. The Decemberists - E. Watson (from Long Live The King)
16. The Black Keys - Lonely Boy (from the cd-single Lonely Boy)
17. Autopsy IV Commentary
18. Shooter Jennings - Outlaw You (from iTunes)
19. Chuck Ragan - Nomad By Fate (from Covering Ground)
20. Autopsy IV Commentary
21. American Anodyne - Bastard Sons Of The New Depression (from So, You Wanna Be A Bullfighter)
22. Scott H. Biram - I want My Mojo Back (from Bad Ingredients)

NINEBULLETS.NET PODCAST: EPISODE 22

July 8th, 2011

It’s time for a new ninebullets podcast. Immediately you might notice that I’ve stopped naming these by the month they were released and going with the more common numbering of the episodes. I am doing this cause I’ve not been so swell at getting these out monthly so I thought going to the numbering system would work better. This will also enable me to do more than one in a month should the opportunity to do that arise.

With that said, let’s talk about the new show. Following in the footsteps of the radio show 2 weeks ago I decided to do a “some of the best of the first ½ of 2011” show that would feature some of the songs that I didn’t get to on Ninebullets Radio. The show features a track from Shane Sweeny’s upcoming solo album, The Finding Time as well as tracks from two heavily anticipated albums from the likes of Gillian Welch and William Elliott Whitmore. The show is rounded out with awesome songs from 9B faves such as Austin Lucas, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Grayson Capps, Frank Turner, Jason Isbell as well as new found fave Damion Suomi.

As always, if you like what you’re hearing on these podcasts, tell your friends about it. Post about it on your Facebook wall. Tweet about it. These bands are all pretty small so every new ear their music find counts, and you can directly assist them in that effort by telling people about this podcast and others like it. Now....on to the tunes:

Track Listing:

01. Jami Lynn - SweetThing 02. Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside - Poison Milk 03. Autopsy IV Commentary 04. Damion Suomi - Ghost 05. Gillian Welch - That's The Way It Goes 06. Jason Isbell - Codeine 07. Autopsy IV Commentary 08. Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Three Bloodhounds Two Shepherds One Fila Brasileiro 09. William Elliott Whitmore - Bury Your Burdens In The Ground 10. Chet O'Keefe - Game Bird 11. Grayson Capps - Rock N Roll 12. Autopsy IV Commentary 13. Shane Sweeny - When I Am Empty 14. Austin Lucas - Sleep Well 15. Autopsy IV Commentary 16. Frank Turner - I Still Believe

NINEBULLETS.NET APRIL/MAY 2011 PODCAST:

May 13th, 2011

Damnit. This podcast was supposed to be posted the last weekend of April but when I made the podcast apparently my microphone was messing up, so I had to go back and rerecord all the parts where I was talking. As a result, it’s a little late but the music in this episode makes it worth the wait.

This month’s podcast opens with what is, in my opinion, song of the year so far, “Highway 42” by Grayson Capps, and just keeps crushing from there on out. It features Matt Woods, The Only Sons, Have Gun Will Travel and Two Cow Garage, all of whom are playing my birthday party tonight. It also features brand new music from plenty of bands you know, as well as a few you might not.

I’ll leave y’all to the music after a quick request. If you like what you’re hearing on these podcasts, tell you friends about it. Post about it on your Facebook wall. Tweet about it. These bands are all pretty small so every new ear their music find counts, and you can directly assist them in that effort by telling people about this podcast and others like it. So, your challenge for the month of May, should you accept it, is to tell 5 people you think would appreciate this music about a podcast or website. I’d love if it was the 9B Podcast or ninebullets.net, but it doesn’t have to be.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Grayson Capps - Highway 42 [00.00.00]
  2. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.03.48]
  3. Matt Woods - Days Of Walking [00.04.47]

  12. Autopsy Iv Commentary [00.33.55]
  13. The Only Sons - Put Up A Fight [00.36.48]
  14. Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil - Prove Me Wrong [00.39.12]

ninebullets.net podcast: March 2011

March 15th, 2011

Hey everyone. I shove off for SxSW in a few hours and figured I'd post a new podcast before I shuttered the site for the week. Well. Kind of shuttered. I'm sure there will be scattered updates from Austin but they'll be sporadic and of questionable lucidity. If you're interested you can follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook where I am sure there will be no shortage of updates, hijinks and pictures for use as evidence. But enough about me and my travels...let's talk about the podcast.

The first half of the show serves as a SxSW preview of sorts but it's worth is since the preview has brand new tracks from Ha Ha Tonka, Jason Isbell and the incomparable Slim Cessna's Auto Club. As the show moves along I drift away from the SxSW motif with new songs from James Leg, Michael Dean Damron and The Red Hills.

All in all, I think I've done a pretty good job putting together an hour of quality listening for all the CxCW kids out there. As always, if you enjoy the show please share it with your Facebook and Twitter buddies. If you really enjoy the show, let me know...it's always nice to get some feedback.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Justin Otto - Sun [00.00.00]
  2. Jason Isbell - Alabama Pines [00.03.15]
  3. Ha Ha Tonka - Made Example Of [00.07.05]
  4. Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Three Bloodhounds Two Shepherds One Fila Brasileiro [00.11.15]
  5. Otis Gibbs - Kansas City [00.17.17]
  6. Possessed By Paul James - Shoulda' Known Better [00.20.56]
  7. Scott H. Biram - Long Fingernail [00.24.30]
  8. James Leg - Drinking Too Much [00.30.20]
  9. Buffalo Gospel - Sunday's Never Smile Anymore [00.34.02]
  10. Doc Daily & Magnolia Devil - Blue-Eyed Blonde [00.39.30]
  11. I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House - Bad Days Ahead [00.44.38]
  12. Red Hills - USAtan [00.48.42]
  13. Michael Dean Damron - Devil Meets The Long Haired Weirdo [00.52.07]
  14. Mario Matteoli - Sun Keeps On Beatin' Down [00.57.38]

ninebullets.net January 2011 Podcast: Let’s Get Jiggy With It Edition:

February 1st, 2011

(AIV Note: This was supposed to be posted yesterday but my dumb ass forgot to upload the podcast to the server. Der, I iz full of forgets....anyhow, enjoy.)

Well, it might be a new year and I might have a radio show now but nothing really changes when it comes to the podcast. It starts nice enough and you might even be able to hear some improvement gleaned from doing a weekly radio show but it quickly devolves into a ½ drunk foul mouthed typical podcast. Don’t let that deter you though. While my speech and self-censoring abilities may erode over the hour the music fucking slays and that’s what you’re here for, right?

This month show is plumb full of new music. We got new songs from The Only Sons, Kasey Anderson, Social D, The Decemberists, Frank Turner and Two Cow Garage. We also bookended this show with Michael Claytor. We open the show with a track from his solo album, We Have An Elephant and we close the show with an absolutely beautiful song from Austin Lucas which features Michael playing some fine banjo and harmonies. And, if all of that wasn’t pushing your awesome meter to it’s threshold of pain, we even managed to mix in a track from Danzig’s new album and it fits. PLAM! Top that It Burns When I Pee....the gauntlet has been laid down.

Well folks, that’s it. Another month in the can and I hope y’all like it. If you do, could you please, please, please post something about it on twitter, facebook and whatever cutting edge social network I am oblivious to? Every mention of this will expose these artists to someone who’s never heard of them and that’s what we’re looking for.

Track Listing:

  1. Michael Claytor & His Friends - Hairpins [00.00.00]
  2. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.05.04]
  3. The Only Sons - Temptation [00.06.24]
  4. Kasey Anderson - The Wrong Light [00.09.55]
  5. Danzig - The Revengeful [00.14.07]
  6. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.18.02]
  7. Social Distortion - Machine Gun Blues [00.20.07]
  8. Lucero - Sing Me No Hymns [00.23.45]
  9. Autopsy V Commentary [00.27.37]
  10. The Decemberists - Down By The Water [00.30.00]
  11. Frank Turner - I Still Believe [00.33.37]
  12. Two Cow Garage - My Great Gatsby [00.37.20]
  13. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.40.25]
  14. I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House - Bad Days Ahead [00.42.10]
  15. Tim Barry - (memento mori) [00.46.22]
  16. Slim Cessna's Auto Club - This Land Is Our Land (Redux) [00.49.25]
  17. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.53.37]
  18. Austin Lucas - Sleep Well [00.56.30]

ninebullets.net December 2010 Podcast: Some Of My Favorite Songs From 2010 Edition:

December 29th, 2010

ninebullets_podcast_logo.jpg

Here we are at the end of another year. All things considered, it was a pretty good one. On a personal level, I came into 2010 facing some pretty freaky & scary health issues and I’m leaving more or less in tact and healthy. Both my Seminoles and my Buccaneers had positive seasons while it looks like my Lightning are gonna be in the playoff conversation all season. Musically, it was a pretty solid year too and that’s what we’re really here to talk about now ain’t it.

In preparation for this show I literally (yes, I am properly using the word) collected 70+ songs I wanted to play and set to making a podcast. I say that so you know that this isn’t a “best songs of the year” show so much as a “some of my favorite songs of the year” show. That said, there are some seriously good songs assembled in this show.

And, 2011 is already shaping up to be pretty fucking phenomenal. Hopefully, this won’t be the final ninebullets.netpodcast but there’s more about that in the show for now, let’s just listen to the music:

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Lissie - Bad Romance (Lady Ga Ga cover) [00.00.00]
  2. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.05.36]
  3. Jon Snodgrass - Old Sad Songs [00.06.46]
  4. Gill Landry - Careless Love [00.09.04]
  5. Shannon McNally - Bohemian Wedding Song [00.13.02]
  6. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.18.32]
  7. American Graveyard - Common Ones [00.19.24]
  8. Tim Barry - Thing of the Past [00.23.02]
  9. Truckstop Darlin' - Bluegrass State [00.26.48]
  10. Mat. D. - Ford Marriage [00.31.56]
  11. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.35.12]
  12. Doc Dailey & Magnolia Devil - Prove Me Wrong [00.37.04]
  13. Two Cow Garage - Jackson, Don't You Worry [00.38.48]
  14. Joseph Huber - Can't You See A Floods Coming [00.42.34]
  15. Joe Pug - Not So Sure [00.46.32]
  16. Otis Gibbs - Kansas City [00.51.02]
  17. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.54.36]
  18. Frank Turner - I Still Believe [00.56.54]

As always, if you’re enjoying the sounds you’re hearing please mention this show to your friends and relatives.

See y’all (i think) in 2011!

ninebullets.net November 2010 Podcast: We’re Back Edition:

November 23rd, 2010

ninebullets_podcast_logo.jpg

Oh yeah! Sorry for the 2 month furlow. I missed a month for the ninebullets.net 4th Anniversary Party (which was way awesome!) and I missed a month based on total I dunno. Honestly, I’d planned to do an October podcast but the month just kind of got away from me. Not that any of that shit matters now. It's November, turkey day is around the corner and the podcast is back so let’s talk about it....

The November show features a really drunk me (can you tell where I turned off the drunk recording of this show and came back sober?) and new music from 9B staples Kasey Anderson, Whitey Morgan & The 78's, The Steeldrivers, Joseph Huber (.357 String Band), John Mellencamp and Drag The River. It also features some music from some new found 9B faves like The Cur Dogs, Truckstop Darlin' and Doc Dailey.

All in all, I think this is a great collection of music for your Thanksgiving travels. Listen, love, order a Jack and Coke from your stewardess and let’s do this! Also, really, you have no idea how far a comment, an email or any sort of acknowledgment that people are actually listening/enjoying these things goes....so please, if you like the 9B podcast, let me know but only after you’ve tweeted and posted on Facebook about it.

Enjoy and I’ll holler at y’all in December (i promise, I've already pulled out Robert Earle Keene's, "Merry Christmas From The Family").

TRACKLISTING:

  1. Intro [00.00.00]
  2. Autopsy IV Commentary [00.02.40]

  7. Truckstop Darling - Bluegrass State [00.19.47]
  8. Doc Dailey and Magnolia Devil - Sunday School [00.24.47]

ninebullets.net August 2010 Podcast: Denver Preview Edition:

August 31st, 2010

A podcast on a Tuesday. Kind of outta the norm for when I like to post these, but I am trying to see if I can get the traffic level on them increased. Some months kill, while others barely get any listens at all, and one way or the other I’d like to achieve some form of consistency. But that’s enough of my whining. Let’s talk about this month’s show.

First thing you might notice is that this show was actually assembled in two different pieces with two dramatically different levels of sobriety between them. See if you can find the breaking point. Other than that, the first 1/2 of this show is a preview/celebration of my pending trip to Denver for the Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary Party shows. If you’re gonna be joining me there, then I think you’ll love the part of the show. If you were trying to make it but for whatever reasons just couldn’t make it, consider this some loving salt for your wound. After the Denver segments we barrel into some utterly awesome new music from some bands you may or may not have ever heard of, such as American Graveyard, Left Foot Sally and Gill Landry. I also managed to drop an oldie but goodie from Matthew Dean Herman in there, but I think when you hear it you’ll agree with me that it just. fucking. fit.

We end this month’s podcast from a side project of Devon’s from The Takers. The name of the band is/was Thunderband and they had a standing in Gainesville before Michael moved away. I’ll probably play some more tracks from their demo cd in the coming months.

Well folks, that’s it. Another month in the can and I hope y’all like it. If you do, could you please, please, please post something about it on twitter, facebook and whatever cutting edge social network I am oblivious to?

Thanks.

ninebullets.net July 2010 podcast:

July 30th, 2010

I’ll tell y’all what, when you do a monthly podcast you really begin to appreciate how short a month is. It’s like you just finished the last podcast when you realize you only have 5 days left before the next one is due. This is also the first podcast I ever made without the use of any beer or whiskey. Outside of there being no slurring by the end of it, I don’t really notice much of a difference. Lemme know if you do.

This month’s show features a pretty good balance between ninebullets regulars such as Biram, The Truckers, Austin Lucas and Mat D and relative newcomers you may not have heard of if you don’t read ninebullets such as Back Row Baptists, Reverend Deadeye and The Maldives. In between all of those we dropped some artists that have yet to be featured at all in 9b (though they will in the coming month’s) like Root Jack, The Sadies and Tin Horn Prayer. All in all, I think the whole set turned out really fantastic and I bet an hour from now you’ll agree with me.

If you enjoy this month’s please tell your Facebook and Twitter followers about it, I’ll greatly appreciate it.

~ Autopsy IV (twitter/facebook)
