ninebullets.net October Beer/Podcast:

October 30th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Well, well, well, here it is. The first themed podcast and we decided to do the dual (collab, if you will) themes of Murder Ballads and Beer. The murder ballads came from y’all’s emails and my admittedly shit memory, while the beer came from Rogue Brewery courtesy our Portland friend Lollyrae. I hope I did okay, but I have to admit I am lacking a little confidence on this one. I think the main problem is that I wasn’t too sure how I was gonna do it before I started it, then I realized midway through that I needed to cut it off due to file size and my podcast host. That said, a couple more of these and I think I could have it down to an art…not that it matters. This bad boy is done, so let’s talk about it.

As I said, this month’s podcast features murder ballads and devil songs. I had asked for people to email me their suggestions and got enough songs that I could have done a two hour show, and that’s before I put in the songs I wanted to include. THEN, to add more time, I had all that wonderful (and some not so wonderful) beer to talk about! I’m really curious to know if y’all think it turned out very good. If I didn’t include your song, it’s probably not because I didn’t like it, I just ran out of time. Hopefully, next month we’re gonna be doing another one of these featuring Florida bands and Florida craft beers.

Y’all have a happy Halloween and check back here tomorrow for a Strawfoot giveaway. Til’ then, here is the tracklisting for this month’s show, please tell your friends and Facebook/Twitter followers about it. I’ll greatly appreciate it.

ninebullets.net September Podcast

October 2nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Well, here we are on our seventh podcast and I think I’ve gotten the swing of things. No longer do I feel too silly talking to myself in the middle of the night, and I think I’ve really figured out how to use Mixcraft. What does that mean for you? It means that the actual creation of them will be much easier, so a greater amount of attention can be paid to the overall mixing/leveling/mastering of them.  All of this will be good. Now, let’s get on with the show.

This month’s got a good chunk of unreleased material on it. We’ve got tracks from upcoming cds by Lucero, Strawfoot and Micah Schnabel (Two Cow Garage) as well as new material from brand new cds by Drivin’ & Cryin’ and Chuck Ragan. The new Lucero album is coming out on October 6 and if you live in the Tampa/St. Pete area there will be a listening party at Vinyl Fever which features pizza courtesy of yours truly but more on that in October (editors note: this was supposed to be posted in Sept.). I dunno why but for some reason in the middle of this podcast I got a hair up my ass and decided to feature nothing but female fronted bands. Why I did it aside, there is some awesome material included on the back half of the podcast including a track from Betty-Soo, an artist I was introduced to via the excellent blog, A Truer Sound.

And that’s all I gots to say about this months podcast. It’s awesome. You should listen and post about it on your blog, facebook, myspace and livejournal site. You should play it when you have sex with your self/boy/girl/person i met an hour ago friend. And you MUST come back for the October podcast! Why? Let’s get into that….

The October podcast is gonna be the first themed podcast. See, back in August some folks and myself on Twitter came up with the idea that October should be a #beerpodcast and we started getting the word out. The idea is for folks to send me some of their regional brews and I sample them/comment on them during the podcast. I think this is a fantastic idea because…well, for one, I get free booze but also because Florida has CRAP for beer selection where as the rest of y’all get all these awesome craft brews that I want to drink. Everyone tells me that if I’d ever had ______________ then I’d think Fat Tire was shit but we don’t even get Fat Tire, much less ______________ here so how would I know? So, you have a favorite craft brew? Mail me a bottle (address on the about page) and I’ll try it and as a thank you one day I’ll mail you the bottle back full of some of my personal homebrew. It’s a win-win situation. I hope to start getting box upon box of beer on my doorstep but that’s not all…..NO! The October podcast is also gonna be musical themed…

Since October is all about Halloween then we’re gonna celebrate death with the October podcast. It’s gonna be nothing but murder ballads and devil songs. If you have a favorite murder ballad of devil song….email it to me. We’ll celebrate Halloween and irritate the devil dodgers.

ninebullets.net August podcast:

August 27th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Here we are. Another month, another podcast. Can you believe it’s been 6 months? Traffic on these is improving a little and that’s raised my spirits about doing them…I know I’m supposed to be all about doing them regardless of the amount of people who listen….and I will be, just as soon as the podcast’s monthly traffic gets in the same neighborhood as ninebullets.net’s daily traffic. That said, let’s talk about this month’s podcast.

The moment I sat down and started mapping out what songs I wanted to play this month I started getting excited. It quickly became obvious that this month’s song selection was gonna be the bomb. We got unreleased tracks from The Fox Hunt, Left Lane Cruiser, Carolyn Mark, Malcolm Holcombe, Pete Bernhard (Devil Makes Three) and Chuck Ragan, as well as newborn songs from Chad Price (Drag The River), Mat d. and the Profane Saints, The Builders and The Butchers, The Takers and Lonesome Wyatt (Those Poor Bastards) w/Rachel Brooke.

In the middle of the show I decided to do a set featuring bands who will be performing at Suburban Home’s 14 Anniversary Weekend Party, which I’ll be attending in 11 days. Hopefully I’ll come back from it with some good stories, good pictures and a few interviews.

And that does it. I’m really happy with this month’s podcast and I think y’all will like it. Do me a favor, though. If you listen and you enjoy the show, please tell other people about it.

Thanks, everyone. ~Autopsy IV (twitter: @autopsy4)

ninebullets.net June podcast

June 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Whew! Talk about getting this one in just under the wire. This month was nutzo with 80 Proof Music, a brief break and all sorts of other stuff. No matter though cause we’re coming in on time with some great music to fill your July 4th weekend up with.

I decided to shorten up the nine bullets intro music this month. I’m not very happy with how it ended up and I hope to make a better edit of it in the coming weeks or I’ll just go back to posting the whole song. What do you think? Do you like hearing all of Nine Bullets each month or would you prefer a shortened version of it?

This month’s podcast includes a new track by one of our favorite rock bands, The Whipsaws as well as a track from fellow Alaskan, Matthew Dean Herman which comes from his Evan Phillip’s (The Whipsaws / E.S.P.) produced debut, Blackbird. The album is fantastic and I’ve got a nice little write-up about it I plan on posting next week. As you’ll see in the track listing below there is also a fun little segment of cover songs and we round things off with a rocking/punk-blues segment followed by a set of songs with a more traditional blues sound.

I decided to close the show with some nerdcore hiphop tracks. The Master Onion song is from an old video game called PaRappa The Rapper that I just adored. I followed that up with two artists from Scrub Club Records that have just been blowing me away for the past week. You can download both of their albums over on Scrub Club for free and I’d advise you to do it….they’re doing the whole nerdcore thing on a totally new level.

July is gonna be another crazy month. I am hitting up Nerdapalooza and The Deep Blues Festival in July. I’m sure I am gonna be exposed to (and get) a shit ton of new music and my guess is that the July podcast will be focused on that stuff….I dunno about you, but I can’t wait.

Okay, that’s enough typing, let’s get to the track list and the music:

  1. Ninebullets Podcast Intro [00.00.00]

  23. Dr. Awkward - Geekquilibrium [57.30.00]

As always, any suggestions on how to make this thing better are always appreciated. As are any efforts to promote and advertise it….so please, Tweet about it, post links on message boards, post myspace bulletins and force your little sister to listen to it.

See y’all next month.

ninebullets.net April Podcast

April 23rd, 2009 · 2 Comments

Okay, last month we stumbled, both technically and performance wise, through the debut podcast. Now come month two we’re pretty much about to drop the cream of Americana podcasts (from one of the best Americana blogs) on you, and our tech is prepped for the amount of awesome that you’re likely to find yourself listening to multiple times a week. I know I’m coming off like the Kanye West of the Americana blogging community, but I don’t give a fuck. I like fish sticks and (having listened to this thing 10 times since I made it) I’m telling you, you’re gonna love it and you’re gonna listen to it numerous times. I feel that confident.

Some of the improvements this month are a new microphone (thanks to Trevor’s suggestion) so there’s no more overwhelming hiss and instead of shuffling (and struggling) through 3 different programs for the podcast, I found a one-stop shop program in Mixcraft that’s programmed in the same manner as I work.  These changes have given the whole effort a much more professional feel, and added to that is the fact that I am starting to embrace the drunken talking to yourself in the middle of the night reality of podcasting. That said, I worry this may be the crest. I fear this may be the best 9b podcast ever and it’s all downhill from here. Yes, I am that confident in the material in the hour that’s posted under this text. That said, I am gonna bust my ass to match it in May.

So, here is the tracklisting for what very well may be the best ninebullets.net podcast there ever will be:

  1. Drive-by Truckers - Nine Bullets
  2. Autopsy IV Commentary
  3. Strawfoot - Cursed Neck
  4. Pinebox Serenade - Woven Arms
  5. Uncle Sinner - When Jesus Comes
  6. Autopsy IV Commentary
  7. Olin & The Moon - Call Me Up
  8. American Aquarium - California
  9. Eileen Jewell - Sea of Tears
  10. Autopsy IV Commentary
  11. Drag The River - Old Sad Songs [extended] (Lucero Cover)
  12. Gillian Welch & Old Crow Medicine Show - The Weight (The Band Cover)
  13. Scott H. Biram - Sinking Down (FD Session)
  14. Jon & Chad (Drag The River) - Dancin’ In The Moonlight (Thin Lizzy Cover)
  15. Autopsy IV Commentary
  16. Grayson Capps - Going Back To The Country
  17. Chris Knight - Enough Rope
  18. Autopsy IV Commentary
  19. Two Cow Garage - Should’ve California

IF YOU LISTEN TO THIS AND ENJOY IT PLEASE FORWARD IT TO SOMEONE ELSE!
